Jharsuguda is set to receive a major infrastructure boost following the approval of large-scale railway multi-tracking projects by the Union Cabinet. The projects, estimated at around ₹10,783 crore, cover approximately 656 kilometres across several states and include a fourth railway line on the Kharagpur–Jharsuguda section.
The additional railway capacity is expected to improve the movement of both passenger and freight trains along the important corridor. Jharsuguda is already a major railway and industrial hub, with significant coal, power and manufacturing activity. Additional tracks could help reduce congestion, improve operational efficiency and facilitate smoother transportation of raw materials and finished goods. The development is therefore expected to have wider economic significance for Jharsuguda and neighbouring industrial areas, while also strengthening the district’s connectivity with other major cities and markets.
